Hunan is my family's go to favorite Chinese place in Fresno even though it's not in our neighborhood about 15 minutes away Herndon and cedar. There was so much food on the turntable the five people who ordered it couldn't finish. The extensive menu runs at least 6 pages. We ordered the dinner for 2 or however many want to participate and choose an entree to make it simpler, otherwise there are almost too many choices.

For $17 per person participating you get chicken salad, appetizer, soup, 1 entree for each person participating, noodles. We had dinner for 2 which would have been plenty to eat for 4 people.  We were barely starting our chicken salad when they brought out and served the soup and then all the entrees and the waiter and a helper cut up the pan fried noodles for us.

Remember when you order each entree could probably feed 2 people and traditionally everyone shares from each of the entrees which are placed in the middle of the table and from there you serve onto your plate.  The kids each ordered their own entrees: 2 variations of pan fried noodles and sweet and sour pork.  They still got to eat the salad and soup and appetizer and entree from the dinner for 2.

Don't forget the fried ice cream for dessert.

Vibe: It was hard to find this place at first because it was tucked into the back of the plaza. However, the interior was surprisingly nice! It definitely felt like a CHINESE restaurant with the wallpaper, chairs, linens, and decor. The restaurant was also very spacious.

Customer Service: The host and waitress were both helpful with our orders. One thing that bothered me a bit was that the waiters kept checking in if our meal was alright - probably 3 times for a 1.5hrs we were there. I think it was because we were 1 one 3 parties inside, but I thought it was bit unnecessary.

Food: I was on the road and traveling to Fresno, and this restaurant really exceeded my expectations for Chinese food in regards to taste and pricing. The eggplant clay pot is my go to dish at Chinese places, and it was well made here.

Hunan is a restaurant that reminds us that China has at least as many regional cooking styles as the United States. Most of the Chinese restaurants in the Fresno/Clovis area are in fact Cantonese. So, items may be similar to what you are familiar with with very notable differences.
For example, the chicken salad in most Chinese restaurants has a pineapple base for the salad dressing. Hunan chicken salad dressing is peanut based.
The broccoli beef at Hunan is very much like Broccoli beef in all the other restaurants.
One dish I'm finding out is pretty much what the chef knows how to make. That's the Szechuan chicken. In every restaurant the chicken is prepared differently, the sauce is different and any vegetables used also varies. The one constant is there is chicken, and the Szechuan peppers.
Hunan Szechuan Chicken has battered chicken and a brown sweet sauce, stir fried with the Szechuan peppers. The peppers themselves are spicy in a way that is different than other hot peppers. They don't make the chicken spicy at all. The outside of the peppers provides a smoky flavor to the sauce. Biting into a pepper quickly reminds you it's a hot peppers. The unique feature is the tip of your tongue will go numb for a while. Just the tip of the tongue.

I don't know what the reviews below had but this place has no flavor. Savanah was our waiter was great. However the food was bland. Maybe because I really am chinese or because I've actually had real flavor of what it's suppose to be but save your money. Also who serves food COLD?!?! When sitting down to eat they didn't have enough menus and it wasn't even half full. This place needs to taste their food before serving it to the public because it's not good. Where did all the flavor go? Is it because the ingredients is bought cheaply?
    NOT RETURNING BACK.

Still a hit and miss kinda place. (Inconsistent)

Food is usually good, but if you catch them on a busy day...that's another story.  No food presentation and does NOT taste good.
